BOSTON and KINGSPORT, Tennessee., October 19, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Medical technology innovator Ivenix partnered with Eastman to incorporate Eastman Tritanâ„¢ Copolyester MXF in its revolutionary Ivenix infusion system. The new system includes a high volume infusion pump, a portfolio of delivery sets, and a suite of IV management and analysis tools to inform care and advance clinical and operational efficiency. Ivenix selected Tritan MXF for the exterior of the pump because of its excellent chemical resistance and durability against the aggressive disinfection protocols needed to prevent the spread of nosocomial infections (HAIs).

“The Ivenix infusion system has several key advantages over our competitors, one being its durability in real clinical environments,” said Josh North, sales manager at Ivenix. “The ability to withstand short-lived disinfectants like quaternary ammonium and ammonium chloride resonates with infection prevention and patient safety teams. In addition, our pumps successfully endure the “hard love” experienced in daily clinical use, and this has a real impact on repair costs and downtime for our customers. “

Because Tritan MXF is resistant to more disinfectants, infection preventers can rest easy knowing they can choose from a variety of cleaners and wipes that won’t negatively impact their devices. This simplifies cleaning protocols and alleviates concerns about voiding warranties because the wrong cleaner was used.

Of those hospitalized, 90% require the use of infusion pumps, essential medical devices that deliver fluids such as essential nutrients and drugs into a patient’s body in controlled amounts. They are also the number one medical device plagued by significant failure-related safety concerns. Infusion pump failures, such as broken components, corrosion of electrical pins, and even cracks of any size can compromise the safe use of pumps and lead to catastrophic results for patients.

Infusion pumps, like many medical devices, are constantly handled by more than one person, are moved around in many environments, and can fall or hit hard surfaces. Frequent cleaning, such as that undergone by medical devices (often hourly), can weaken typical polymers used in device housings, making them brittle and more susceptible to cracking.

Recognizing the link between chemical resistance, impact and device failure, Ivenix needed a polymer for the outer casing of the pump that would solve all of these problems. The company selected Tritan MXF early in the design process because it demonstrates the right combination of properties to provide lightweight durability and chemical resistance.

Eastman’s medical polymers enable Ivenix to provide a more powerful infusion pump that is more disinfected ready, contributing to more consistent performance, longevity and ultimately patient safety.
